2008 Reflections

At the end of every year I make up a list of my music favourites of the past year. So why break a tradition? A bit late, but here goes the list for 2008. I decided to write a little story with it to make this a full blogpost. Here it goes...
For a U2 and DMB fan like me, 2008 was a great year to check out some other nice artists. Neither of both released any new substantial material so a great opportunity to really go for loads of new stuff. Thats how I got introduced to tons of new artists, like Elbow, The Killers, The Wombats, MGMT, Kings of Leon, Vampire Weekend, dEUS, Nouvelle Vague and Jason Mraz. All highly recommended by the way.
It also gave me the opportunity to get more into the bands that might make it big in 2009. Most of which you probably dont really know. Like The Submarines, Grand Avenue, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, Florence and the Machine, Cut Copy and lastly Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin.
My appreciation for the Dutch music scene also grew a lot last year. There are some great bands out here in our beautiful country. Like LPG (from Groningen), De Staat, I Kissed Charles and HIT ME TV. All four are featured on the site a few times.
Lastly, 2008 has been a great year for live music. Although I really favour small venues over big crowds, I have to admit that this years hottest tickets for me were the Summertour of both Jack Johnson and Dave Matthews Band (US Tour). Pretty awesome too to see Rooney, my third favorite band following U2 and DMB, for the second and third time and meet them in person twice.
